Thus, although the terms "least squares" and "linear model" are closely linked, they are not synonymous.įormulation In linear regression, the observations ( red) are assumed to be the result of random deviations ( green) from an underlying relationship ( blue) between a dependent variable ( y) and an independent variable ( x). Conversely, the least squares approach can be used to fit models that are not linear models. So, cost functions that are robust to outliers should be used if the dataset has many large outliers. Use of the Mean Squared Error(MSE) as the cost on a dataset that has many large outliers, can result in a model that fits the outliers more than the true data due to the higher importance assigned by MSE to large errors. Linear regression models are often fitted using the least squares approach, but they may also be fitted in other ways, such as by minimizing the " lack of fit" in some other norm (as with least absolute deviations regression), or by minimizing a penalized version of the least squares cost function as in ridge regression ( L 2-norm penalty) and lasso ( L 1-norm penalty). If the goal is to explain variation in the response variable that can be attributed to variation in the explanatory variables, linear regression analysis can be applied to quantify the strength of the relationship between the response and the explanatory variables, and in particular to determine whether some explanatory variables may have no linear relationship with the response at all, or to identify which subsets of explanatory variables may contain redundant information about the response. After developing such a model, if additional values of the explanatory variables are collected without an accompanying response value, the fitted model can be used to make a prediction of the response. If the goal is error i.e variance reduction in prediction or forecasting, linear regression can be used to fit a predictive model to an observed data set of values of the response and explanatory variables. Most applications fall into one of the following two broad categories: Linear regression has many practical uses. This is because models which depend linearly on their unknown parameters are easier to fit than models which are non-linearly related to their parameters and because the statistical properties of the resulting estimators are easier to determine. Linear regression was the first type of regression analysis to be studied rigorously, and to be used extensively in practical applications. Like all forms of regression analysis, linear regression focuses on the conditional probability distribution of the response given the values of the predictors, rather than on the joint probability distribution of all of these variables, which is the domain of multivariate analysis. Most commonly, the conditional mean of the response given the values of the explanatory variables (or predictors) is assumed to be an affine function of those values less commonly, the conditional median or some other quantile is used. In linear regression, the relationships are modeled using linear predictor functions whose unknown model parameters are estimated from the data. If the explanatory variables are measured with error then errors-in-variables models are required, also known as measurement error models. This term is distinct from multivariate linear regression, where multiple correlated dependent variables are predicted, rather than a single scalar variable. The case of one explanatory variable is called simple linear regression for more than one, the process is called multiple linear regression. In statistics, linear regression is a statistical model which estimates the linear relationship between a scalar response and one or more explanatory variables (also known as dependent and independent variables). "These constrained royal power in return for financial and military support. The Plantagenet Kings were forced to negotiate compromises such as the Magna Carta. With the Plantagenets, England changed, althogh this was not caused by the monarchs. Their name came from planta genista, the Latin for yellow broom flower, which the Counts of Anjou wore as an emblem on their helmets. Plantagenet Kings were thus the richest family in Europe and ruled England and half of France. Henry’s wife Eleanor ruled the even larger territory to the south called Aquitaine. This is why sometimes this is also called the House of Anjou or Angevin dynasty. The first Plantagenet was King Henry II, whose father owned vast lands in Anjou, an area as big as Normandy. The Plantagenets were a huge powerful family not just in England but throughout Europe. For locations and prices Expedia can help! In case you just realized you want to learn more about the British Royal Family, as much as the history that surrounds them you can always go for a trip to England. William was the first Norman King in England. He inherited Normandy but later became a candidate to rule England when his first cousin once removed Edward the Confessor died childless. This situation also caused some difficulties for him after he succeeded his father, as anarchy and struggle characterized the first years of his rule. His illegitimate status made him known also as William the Bastard. William was the son of the unmarried Robert I, Duke of Normandy, by his mistress Herleva. It took a lot of checking but the links are correct. To make things worse, monarchs tend to die and marry relatives or name children after a sibling or dead family member. Try for example "Æthelstan", at first it is hard to know if it is a male or a female. Some have strange letters and you need a session of old English to learn how to pronounce them. It is also the period when England was unified. This is the time when the British monarchs fought the Viking raids. Percentage of relative standard deviation, the measure of inter-individual variance, for MoCA (26.9%) was greater than for MMSE (19.0%) overall ( p < 0.0001). Ceiling effect for MCI was less frequent using MoCA versus MMSE according to the distribution of total score. MMSE had good correlation with MoCA (Spearman correlation coefficient = 0.8374, p < 0.0001) and moderate agreement for detecting MCI with Kappa value of 0.5973 ( p < 0.0001). The overall MCI prevalence was 28.6% for MMSE and 36.2% for MoCA. Correlation and agreement for MCI between MMSE and MoCA were analyzed group differences in cognition were evaluated and multiple logistic regression model was used to clarify risk factors for MCI. Demographic and health-related characteristics were collected by questionnaires. Education-specific cutoffs of total score were used to diagnose MCI. Objective cognition was assessed by Chinese versions of MMSE and MoCA, and total score and subscores of cognitive domains were calculated for each. We conducted a cross-sectional analysis of 4923 adults aged ≥55 years from the Community-based Cohort Study on Nervous System Diseases. However, their comparison on which is best suited to assess cognition is scarce in samples from multiple regions of China. The Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) and the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) are the most commonly used scales to detect mild cognitive impairment (MCI) in population-based epidemiologic studies. This resulted in a direct conflict as other players who just wanted to go from point A to point B now had a massive player fort to navigate through, so we scaled it back to only finding other player’s forts in dedicated passageways, where you can either hop in and visit their Fort, or move on to your next area. At one point, we had public areas with respawning monsters, and we tried some prototypes to place the fort actually out in those areas, so you would happen across a player's fort during combat. “Radiant Blast” in the Light tree would be the light equivalent if you are heavily investing in Dark.įorts have gone through many revisions since the start of the project. “Dark Spears” in the Dark tree is an excellent choice as a supplemental spell if you are heavily investing in the Light tree, as Dark Spears will deal damage over time, building up the Dark bar for a longer period. Harmonic Form triggers after a certain amount of time is spent dealing damage with both Dark and Light skills, and is a very potent increase to your combat effectiveness. Even if you mostly use Dark spells, you’ll want to include at least one Light spell in your loadout, in order to take advantage of the Dusk Mage’s Harmonic Form. Michael May, Echtra Games: The Dusk Mage, unlike other classes, really requires use of both aspects of the character (Light and Dark) to be played optimally. Select your keyboard from the product drop-down menu at the top left. Click the My All-in-One tab at the top of the SetPoint Settings window. Hopefully this works for you and whoever else comes across this thread. Start > Programs > Logitech > Mouse and Keyboard > Mouse and Keyboard Settings. Also, some people say this file is needed to make extra buttons or scrolling work on the mouse but so far I haven't noticed any loss of functionality. It did put itself back into startup with a new entry shortly after I did this but since I've disabled that one as well it hasn't shown up again. Click the My Keyboard tab at the top of the SetPoint Settings window. Anyway, I disabled it from startup and it seems that the problem is gone now, no more resetting. This works fine with my external mouse but my trackpad only seems to use the Windows slider so this resetting was a real pain. The idea is that both Windows and Setpoint have seperate sensitivity sliders and the end result is a combination of the two so by keeping the Windows one at default you only have to worry about adjusting the Setpoint slider. It seems that this is a part of the logitech keyboard/mouse drivers and it's main function is to reset the Windows mouse sensitivity to default on reboot. I was looking through my startup items in MSCONFIG and looking up the ones I didn't recognize. Is the touchpad powered on If not, move the On/Off slider to the On position. Any thoughts?Īctually I think I have found a fix, or at least a work-around. allows you to disable/enable touchpad gestures. It makes it through sleep cycles with no problem, but not reboots. Also, it began long before I ever connected an external mouse so I don't suspect a conflict there. I had this problem with the machine as I received it, and still since I've formatted and reinstalled. I've tried two versions of the Logitech mouse driver and two versions of the Synaptics driver to no avail. I haven't noticed any other settings getting changed. Hi, I want to disable touchpad when mouse is connected, and enable it after removing the mouse. Then the slider goes back to the middle which is way to slow for me, and Enhance Pointer Precision unchecks itself. Specifically, in the Mouse control panel, Pointer Options tab, I move the Pointer Speed slider all the way to the right/fastest (I've tried other poitions while troubleshooting, but it doesn't seem to matter) and I also turn on Enhance Pointer Precision (tried it on and off, doesn't help the problem) and all is well until I restart. Everytime I restart the machine my mouse pointer gets reset to it's default slow speed. So far so good except for one annoying issue. I got an Asus A8Js laptop a couple weeks ago. When rotating a point around the origin by 270 degrees, (x,y) becomes (y,-x). Now let's consider a 270-degree rotation:Ĭan you spot the pattern? The general rule here is as follows: When we rotate a point around the origin by 180 degrees, the rule is as follows: We can see another predictable pattern here. Now let's consider a 180-degree rotation: With a 90-degree rotation around the origin, (x,y) becomes (-y,x) We might have noticed a pattern: The values are reversed, with the y value on the rotated point becoming negative. Let's start with everyone's favorite: The right, 90-degree angle:Īs we can see, we have transformed P by rotating it 90 degrees. Some of the most useful rules to memorize are the transformations of common angles. There are many important rules when it comes to rotation. On the other hand, we can also use certain calculations to determine the amount of rotation even without graphing our points. We measure the "amount" of rotation in degrees, and we can do this manually using a protractor. Just like the wheel on a bicycle, a figure on a graph rotates around its axis or " center of rotation." As it turns out, the mathematical definition of rotation isn't all that different. We can even rotate ourselves by spinning around until we get dizzy. After all, the wheels on a bicycle or a skateboard rotate. We're probably already familiar with the concept of rotation. But how exactly does this work? Let's find out: What is a rotation? One of these techniques is "rotation." As we might have guessed, this involves turning a figure around on its axis. As we get further into geometry, we will learn many different techniques for transforming graphs. Given a group of letters, students should be able to pick out all of a particular letter. Using abc games that will help students begin to learn the letters and pair them with words and pictures that begin with those letter sounds is a great way to begin learning the alphabet.įinding the letter of the alphabet is another great way to solidify that students can match the actual letter with its written form. Letter recognition, identification and basic phonics are important building blocks in literacy, as these are prerequisites to being able to learn to read. Eventually, they will add on the vowel sounds - a, e, i, o, and u - and then start to work on their consonant sounds as well. One of the beginning steps in any student’s educational career is learning “The Alphabet Song,” including how to say the names of the letters and identify the shapes that correspond to these names. No matter what your child’s need, Turtle Diary has the right games for your beginning reader to master their alphabet. The celebration at the end with a screenful of rainbow stars is exciting as well. Kids will love dragging the pieces together and seeing them match. For example, the letter P might have a pencil, a pig, and a pot. In I Spy, kids are encouraged to match the letter with puzzle pieces containing both the uppercase letter and some pictures of items that start with each letter. They simply follow the dots in the direction of the arrows with their finger or a stylus on a touchscreen, or use a mouse to manipulate the lines. More advanced students can move on to Write Uppercase Letters, a game designed to link eye-hand coordination and teach kids how to write each letter. If they get stumped, they can still click on the letters to hear its name and phonetic sound. Letter Matching is a fun way for them to reinforce the exact shape of letters by making matches of three. They get to color an exciting picture by using their mouse to match colors with its corresponding letter while also gaining eye-hand coordination.Īnother fun way to master letters is to practice identification of uppercase and lowercase letters. Invite your child to Color by Letter, a super fun game that helps with letter identification and helps them to practice colors as well. They get to see the letter and hear its phonetic sound, and the fun graphics will keep them coming back again and again for more practice. Don’t worry about being too precise during this part as the edges will be clear and virtually undetectable. On Turtle Diary, there are a number of alphabet games that you can use with your children to practice letters and master their shape.īeginning in Pre-K, kids can start with Learn ABC, a game that works them step-by-step through the English alphabet, in both uppercase and lowercase. Once your sheets are laminated, take a moment to cut out the individual snowman hats. Alternatively, you could use some self-sealing laminating sheets, which are a great option if you’re short on time, or if you don’t own a thermal laminator.īy laminating the sheets, you’re adding yet another layer of protection that will allow your child to reuse this activity again and again! Plus, the printables are safe from small fingers that may accidentally cause rips and tears. We love using cardstock because it’s much more durable than regular computer paper which makes it perfect for little ones.Ĭut out the individual snowman hats and run them and the full snowman pages through a laminator. To create your snowman alphabet matching activity, go ahead and print the pages at the end of this post onto some cardstock. And it all starts with learning those ABCs! This alphabet matching activity will give your child the practice they need to differentiate between lower and uppercase letters, while also having a little winter fun. We believe a strong foundation in literacy is the cornerstone of a child’s education.
